MEC goes from vision to reality

We have now signed a contract with Wihlborgs Fastigheter. The vision of Media Evolution City – the building that will make southern Sweden the country's most open and modern meeting place for media sectors – will now become reality.

Media Evolution City contains modern offices that will move into old industrial premises. The building will be constructed in Malmö's Varvstad (shipyard) and be occupied by small and large players from media sectors, academia and the public sector over a surface of 7,500 square metres. Possession is estimated to take place in the spring of 2012.

Media Evolution City is a collaboration project between Media Evolution (with players from media sectors in Skåne and Blekinge), Wihlborgs Fastigheter, Region Skåne and the City of Malmö.

Focus on meeting
The new meeting place embodies our numerous activities, where the principal task is to create prerequisites for growth within media sectors – which is achieved through creating meeting places where different media sectors can meet, exchange knowledge and grow together. The new offices will enable meetings between large and small companies, strong production players and innovators, as well as commerce and industry, academia and the public sector.

Media Evolution City will be composed of modern and flexible offices that meet the needs of both tenants and visitors. One important aspect is not to decide exactly what each surface will be used for. The idea is that they shall be developed with time, together with the tenants. The overall concept of the building is openness and variability. The objective is to create a meeting place that is open around the clock, and not just between 9am and 5pm. There will be space for work, meetings and leisure.

The ground floor will be the building's heart and soul. The restaurant and bar will be open to spontaneous meetings, and function as offices. Even the auditorium is multi-functional and will be easily transformed into a joint exhibition surface. A modern office is not only an office as such - it is important that the surrounding environment be an asset equally essential as one's desk.
